Go Figure…

I have to say that last Thursday night at Ozona in downtown Dallas, I tried something never attempted… at least by me. I will try to set the scene. Deryl and I were facing a smiling audience of people sitting at tables, and several sitting at the bar. This particular bar is very long, long enough that it has two huge flat screen TV’s to please all those sitting at either end as well as in the middle.  Now Deryl and I are sitting facing each of these TV’s, while those sitting at the bar watching us, have their backs to both televisions, and the bar tenders.  (Very happy they chose to watch us rather than the TV’s!)ross_fig04b
Well, I couldn’t help but glance up at the TV’s from time to time because I could see that the Winter Olympics were on both of them. Well, before I began to sing the first track off of my new CD, “The American Honky Tonk Bar Association”.  What I saw on TV gave me a ridiculous, crazy, and fun idea.  The Olympic event they were showing appeared to be men’s figure skating?  So, as I played the intro to my song, this figure skater began his/her routine.  So, I asked all those in the place to turn around and watch the televisions as I played my song as if it were the music of choice by this particular skater. Hilarious, and needless to say it was something that I will not forget, and perhaps those sitting at the bar will not forget either!
Who would think the a.h.b.a. would work for an Olympic figure skaters music?  Go figure.

  1. Hey Bryan,
Can’t believe you were just one block away from the National Day of the Cowboy office and I didn’t know you were there. I’ll have to start paying closer attention. The NDOC is at 115 West Exchange and the White Elephant must have close to the same numbers, but up on East Exchange!
Sounds like you had a great time and I’m sorry I missed it, but I do hope to catch you and Deryl in Grapevine next week.
I’m also really looking forward to the Toe Roaster in Colorado on Memorial Weekend! You guys are the best!
    Happy Trails,
    Bethany
